fossil species
† Necrothrips nanus
Nomenclatural details
Necrothrips nanus Priesner, 1924: 147.
Comment:
N. major Schliephake, 2000: 226-227 and N. mesus Schliephake, 2003: 177 are regarded here as synonyms of N. nanus. Each of those species is known exclusively from the holotype specimen and the three species seem to differ by only their body size. A forth specimen stored in the Collection Ulitzka (collection number: MU-Fos-23/1; from Baltic amber) shows measurements between nanus und mesus. Further finds will be necessary to clear the relations within this genus.
Biology and distribution
Fossil from Baltic and Saxonian amber.
