Aeolothrips intermedius
Biology and distribution
Described from Switzerland.
Distribution: widespread in Europe (most common European Aeolothrips species) (zur Strassen, 2003), also in Palearctic Asia.
Living on many different plants of the herb and shrub layer; mainly associated with flowers of various plants in the families Asteraceae, Cruciferae and Fabaceae, often in yellow flowers. This species is a facultative predator, feeding on a mixed diet of pollen and small arthropods like other thrips. Therefore, it is bred and used as a beneficial species.
Attention: females commonly misidentified as A. fasciatus.
