extant species
Anactinothrips vigilans
Nomenclatural details
Anactinothrips vigilans Hood, 1938: 241.
Note: Zur Strassen (1980) treats A. vigilans as an autonomous species, Mound & Marullo (1996) however synonymised it with A. distinguendus. Retana-Salazar (2009) published a revision of Anactinothrips combining vigilans with a new genus: Amerindiothrips. The status of A. vigilans is uncertain. Due to its different head shape the synonymy with A. distinguendus is rejected here. On the other hand the division of the genus Anactinothrips according to Retana-Salazar into numerous genera appears needless and confusing. For these reasons, the species is treated on Thrips-iD as once described by Hood, as Anactinothrips vigilans.
Biology and distribution
Described from Peru. Recorded from French Guiana (Ulitzka unpublished).
