Aptinothrips rufus
Biology and distribution
Described from Greenland (A. groenlandica), Austria (A. intermedius), Czech Republic (A. connaticornis) and England from grasses (T. rufus), Plantago maritima? (T. nitidulus) and seaweed (U. lubbocki).
Distribution: Widespread around the world; up to altitudes of more than 3,300m. On various grasses (Poaceae) including cereal crops.
Specimens from populations near the seaside (sandy heathland and marshland) frequently coloured brown (f. nitidula). Specimens from Southern Europe commonly with two sutures on antennal segment VI; antennae therefore apparently 8-segmented (f. styligera).
