Biology and distribution
Described from Albania (H. trifolii), Russia (P. armatus), Finland (P. obscuricornis), Austria (T. leucanthemi), Rumania (H. scythicus) as well as Iowa USA (H. trifolii) and Wyoming USA (Z. wyomingensis).
Distribution: Widespread across Europe to Iran and across northern parts of North America into California; introduced into New Zealand and southern Australia; a few records also from Chile und Argentinia.
Bisexual populations breed particularly in the flowers of Leucanthemum vulgare, but also on some other Asteraceae, and large and small males can occur together. Unisexual populations occur on Trifolium pratense (Fabaceae) and Plantago sp. (Plantaginaceae).
