Biology and distribution
Described from Germany (T. haemorrhoidalis), England (H. adonium), Finland (H. abdominalis), Sri Lanka (H. ceylonicus) and Australia (H. semiaureus, D. rufiventris).
Distribution: Originated from South America, possibly Peru, this species is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions. In temperate zones it is found only in glasshouses.
Larvae and adults feed on the lower surface of leaves of a wide range of trees and shrubs, including some ferns, but rarely on herbaceous plants. Large populations are particularly common on plants that are water-stressed.
