Selenothrips rubrocinctus
Biology and distribution
Described from Guadeloupe (P. rubrocinctus), Sri Lanka (H. mendax), West Papua, Indonesia (H. dicolor) and India (B. indicus).
Distribution: Selenothrips rubrocinctus is widespread in subtropical and tropical countries. Its native range, however, is uncertain and it is considered to originate either from northern South America or Africa. In Europe it is reported from Italy and Portugal (Madeira).
Selenothrips rubrocinctus is polyphagous and can be found on a wide range of fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs. It is a pest on avocado (Persea americana), cashew (Anacardium occidentale), cocoa (Theobroma cacao), grapevine (Vitis vinifera), and mango (Mangifera indica).
