Taeniothrips inconsequens
Biology and distribution
Described from former Czechoslovakia (P. inconsequens, P. calcaratus), Austria (T. adustus) and California, USA (E. pyri).
Distribution: Originally Palaearctic, introduced into other regions.
Polyphagous on deciduous trees, mainly on Rosaceae and Acer.
T. inconsequens occurs on its host plants during early spring. By damaging young leaves it causes premature leaf fall. It is a serious pest on sugar maple (Acer saccharum, Sapindaceae) in north eastern USA and on peach (Prunus persica, Rosaceae).
