Biology and distribution
Described from former Czechoslovakia (P. frici), Austria (E. dalmatica, E. pallidicornis, T. alba), Australia (P. brevicornis), Oregon USA (P. blacki), India (T. alis), Romania (T. adusta, T. fulva, T. cibiniensis), Hungary (T. pallidivestis) and Iran (T. persimilis).
Distribution: Tenothrips frici is widespread and common across the Western Palearctic, with a focus on southern areas. It has been introduced around the world, to Western USA, Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay, Hawaii, Pakistan, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. It may be characterised as euryecious, and is living polyphagously in flowers of many different plants, with a preference for yellow flowering Asteraceae.
