Biology and distribution
Described from former Czechoslovakia (T. major, T. gracilicornis, T. gracilicornis adusta), Austria (T. sarothamni, T. corticina), Georgia (T. permutatus, T. ponticus), Turkey (T. phytolaccae), Romania (T. banatica) and England (P. inaequalis).
Distribution: Palaearctic. Polyphagous species, living in the flowers of many different herbaceous and woody plants. During spring also recorded from young leaves of deciduous trees (Moritz 2006). Thrips major is a pest on Roses, however, on common elder (Sambucus nigra, Adoxaceae) this species is regarded as an important pollinator (Scott-Brown et al. 2019).
