extant species
Aeolothrips fasciatus
Biology and distribution
Described from Sweden.
Distribution: Confirmed records come from Finland, Denmark, Germany, Slovakia and the Azores; also from Hokkaido (Japan), New Zealand and Tasmania. For a long time, however, females of this species could not be distinguished from A. intermedius. Some (further) records would therefore have to be verified. A clear distinguishing feature in females is the spermatheca, which is smooth in A. fasciatus, but has small teeth in A. intermedius.
Aeolothrips fasciatus is found in flowers of various plants and is a predator of small arthropods, including other thrips.
